I’ve sat on every side of the revenue table.
I’ve carried a quota. I’ve planned inventory for a manufacturer. I built a digital agency and sold it. For the last six years I’ve run marketing as a fractional CMO through Klout Consulting Group — sitting in leadership meetings, owning the budget, and answering to boards. That sequence is unusual, and it’s why my strategies get built around what closes rather than what looks impressive in a deck.
Most marketing executives come up through one function. They are brand people who find performance marketing crude, or performance people who find brand unmeasurable. I came up sideways — through retail sales, then supply chain planning, then agency ownership, then the CMO chair. Every one of those detours changed how I evaluate a marketing decision.
It started at a T-Mobile retail dealer in Michigan, managing a store in a high-volume mall and analysing inventory to forecast what we’d need in the weeks ahead. Then Enterprise Rent-A-Car, where I ran the branch marketing effort in Dearborn and grew the fleet 15% by winning local business accounts. That is unglamorous work, and it is the best commercial education available. You learn which objections actually kill a deal, which proof points actually move a buyer, and how fast a sales floor stops trusting marketing when the leads do not convert.
The five years after that were operations: material planning at Yazaki North America, then material sales planning at Shinola in Detroit — buying and forecasting every component that went into a watch. Running production plans six months out against demand signals teaches you something marketing rarely teaches: that a campaign driving volume you cannot fulfil profitably is not a success. It is an expensive apology to your customers. My strategies account for margin, unit economics, and inventory because I have been the person on the other end when they do not.
In 2016 I co-founded Rare Branding in Orange County — SEO, paid search, web development, brand work. Two years later it merged with another fast-growing OC agency to form Bastion Rare, where I served as Co-CEO. That period gave me the technical craft layer. I can audit your site architecture, your organic search strategy, your ad account structure, and your brand system with real precision instead of taking a vendor’s word for it — because I have owned the agency on the other side of that conversation, and I know exactly which parts of the invoice are real work.
Since 2020 I have run Klout Consulting Group, working as a fractional CMO with medium and large companies. In practice that means being a senior member of the client’s leadership team: defining the marketing plan, directing internal SEO, PPC, content, email, and social teams, owning campaign budget and monthly reallocation, building lead follow-up cadences alongside sales leadership, partnering with the CEO on operating reviews and board packages, and working with finance to set KPIs and forecast results. The constraint in most marketing organisations is not talent or budget. It is the absence of anyone senior enough to make the hard calls and own them.
I am based in Irvine, California, and I work remotely with companies across Southern California, Chicago, New York, and Texas.
Eighteen years, four disciplines.
Read it bottom to top. Sales taught me what closes. Supply chain taught me what a business can actually deliver. The agency taught me the craft. The CMO chair is where those three finally add up.
Founder & CMO Consultant
Klout Consulting Group
Fractional CMO to medium and large companies. I sit on the client leadership team, define and implement the marketing plan, and direct internal SEO, PPC, content, email, and social teams. I own campaign budget and monthly reallocation, work with sales leadership on lead follow-up cadence, partner with the CEO on operating reviews and board packages, and work with finance to set KPIs, forecast results, and prove marketing is delivering the business outcome.
Co-Chief Executive Officer
Bastion Rare
Co-led the merged agency formed when Rare Branding combined with another fast-growing Orange County firm. Full-service digital: SEO, paid search, Google Shopping, retargeting, social advertising, local map optimization, web development, and mobile. Running the agency is the reason I can read yours — I know which line items are real work and which are padding.
Co-Founder & CEO
Rare Branding
Built a digital agency from zero and ran it through to acquisition by Bastion Collective. Hands-on across search, paid media, brand identity, and web development. This is the technical craft layer — the reason I can audit your site architecture and ad account structure myself instead of taking a vendor’s word for it.
Material Sales Planner
Shinola
Bought and planned every raw material going into watch assembly. Six-month production forecasting against demand signals, vendor negotiation, and inventory reduction through better logistics. Marketing that drives volume a business cannot fulfil profitably is not a win, and this is where I learned it in the least abstract way possible.
Material Planner
Yazaki North America
Managed inventory availability against customer release requirements using enterprise planning systems. Built recovery plans for material shortfalls, monitored supply and demand misalignment, and forecast production six months out. Constraint thinking, KPI construction, and forecast accountability all came from here.
Sales & branch marketing
Enterprise Rent-A-Car · T-Mobile dealer
Carried a quota, managed a high-volume retail store, then ran branch marketing at Enterprise — winning local business accounts that expanded the fleet by 15%. Eight years on the front line is why the first question I ask about a campaign is not what it will reach, but what it will produce.
How each piece shows up in the work.
| Experience | What It Means For Your Marketing |
|---|---|
| Fractional CMO — Klout Consulting Group 2020–present | I have sat on client leadership teams, owned the marketing budget and its monthly reallocation, and built the board packages that explain it. I have already had the conversation your CEO is dreading. |
| Co-CEO — Bastion Rare 2018–2019 | I ran the agency. I know which line items on your agency invoice are real work, which are padding, and exactly which questions make a bad partner uncomfortable. |
| Co-Founder / CEO — Rare Branding 2016–2018, acquired | Built a digital agency from zero through to acquisition. I have done SEO, paid search, and web development with my own hands, not just supervised them. |
| Material Sales Planner — Shinola 2014–2016 | Six-month production forecasting against real demand signals. My strategies account for margin, unit economics, and whether you can actually fulfil the volume. |
| Material Planner — Yazaki North America 2011–2014 | Enterprise planning systems, KPI construction, and forecast accountability. Marketing dashboards do not intimidate me and neither does your CFO. |
| Sales & branch marketing — Enterprise, T-Mobile dealer 2008–2011 | Carried a quota and grew a branch fleet 15% on local business development. I build campaigns for leads that convert, not lead volume sales quietly ignores. |
Non-negotiables.
These are the commitments that make the relationship work. They also disqualify me from some engagements, which is fine.
No referral fees. Ever.
I take no commission from any agency, platform, or vendor I recommend. My compensation comes from you alone, which is the only way the advice stays trustworthy.
You own everything.
Ad accounts, analytics, creative assets, domains, data. All of it stays in your name. If we part ways, nothing walks out the door with me.
I will tell you not to hire me.
If your constraint is product, pricing, or sales capacity rather than marketing, more marketing will not fix it. I would rather lose the engagement than take a retainer that cannot work.
Numbers before narrative.
Every recommendation comes with the arithmetic behind it. If I cannot show you the math, I have not thought about it hard enough yet.
Let’s find out whether we’re a fit.
Thirty minutes, no deck. You describe where growth has stalled; I tell you honestly whether a fractional CMO is the right lever or whether something else is.
